the alternater is heating real fast, is it the computer. l have already rewired it, please help me.

I've been driving for 4 decades & been a mechanic for almost as long & l have never felt my alternator or anyone else's. What made u decide to start feeling ur alternator? or did u see smoke from it? or did u make a special heat gage for it? The computer is not hooked up to the alternator, except through the battery. When u say u rewired the computer, that scares me because that is an extreme thing (and nearly never required) to do. Did ur wire harness burn up? l do not think u r telling us the whole story.

There is a good chance you may have too small of an alternator to power all of the electrical accessories that a Town Car has. Because the Town Car shares the same engine with a Ford Crown Vic & Merc Gd Marq,the 4.6 , it is fairly comon to end up with the less powerful version of alternator because either will fit. Check to be sure you have the varient with the higher amp rating. Good Luck!

Unless the alternator is smoking do not worry about it. When the alternator is charging the battery it produces heat also. If your battery is fully charged (in good condition) and you are not running any accessories or light, the alternator will only be slightly warm to the touch. If its working hard it gets HOT.
