l am getting a red 91 Lincoln mark VIl LSC SE for dirt cheap off of my cousin. It is definately worth saving, the transmission was rebuilt less than 5k ago. Paint is beautiful, int is beautiful, engine runs like a top. The brakes locked up on my cousin the other day, he says the brake petal is hard as all hell and the back brakes are locked up and leaking. What do you think needs to be replaced?

When the brakes went on my 83 malibu, l blew the master cylinder.. but the brakes were SOFT on that. l am lost.

several things could be the problem.

first a hard pedal usually indicates a faulty vacuum booster. power brakes is a misnomer, vacuum assist is a better way of understanding it. it uses engine vacuum on the back side of the pedal to make it easier to push. loss of vacuum, hard pedal. as for the back brakes locked up and leaking, seized calipers, faulty e brake. there is also the little pesky thing we call ABS.

hope this helps a little
