l just bought a 1990 Lincoln Mark VII.It has 215,000 miles.
Runs good and lokks really good.Heres my question.
Today while dring the Overdrive went out .Its an automatic.
It will shift all the way to drive just fine but it wont shift on up to OD.
What could be the problem??The Trans fluid looks and smells burnt.Only had the car for a week so l do not know it is history.

you can do a flush and fill or have the tranny drained and refreshed with a filter, it could have the orginal 215,000 mile tranny oil in it,,,,Usually a burnt smell indicates the trannys fried, but your getting other gears ok,,,,

THE FIRST THING IS TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED IE:CHANGE THE FLUID AND FILTERS, THIS MAY VERY WELL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM..

sounds like someone did not want to do a trans overhaul so they sold it so someone else would have to do it.

Check and make sure that the shift cable bushing did't fall off the shift cable

You got hosed, man. That sucks. I'd go with everyone else and say change the fluid and filter, maybe some nice crimson ATF will make your tranny feel better. Fords are like women, you need to spend money on them every so often or theyll stop giving you what you really want. But when you do spend the money you love it.

215k on an american car with a 5.0. Great stuff. l am gonna tell my friend with the 97 accord with 205000 to stuff it.
