l have a 1993 Lincoln Town car and even if l push the accelerator all the way down to the floor , the car barely picks up speed...then after driving maybe 2 or 3 blocks with the accelerator pushed to the floor it picks up speed for a few moments and slows down again...l had been driving it and it had been popping alot...help me please

l would bet that the timing chain or belt needs replaced, judging by the ''popping'' sound you describe. It could also possibly be that it is missing on one cyl. or more..

Have your exhaust pressure checked. Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter..Anything over 1psi is considered bad

l agree with christian, from your description it sounds like you have a catalytic converter that may be plugged up. A good shop should be able to diagnose this for you quite easily.

check your spark plugs, one could be loose, or they are in the wrong order. Allso your cap for your spark plugs could be bad. Hop this helps you . Good luck with your car. Sharon S

you know most people dont know but if you put in too much oil while changing it, thats the main thing that happens, your car wont accelerate..ESPECIALLY in lincolns.check on the little oil ruler thing, and if thats the case, empty your car oil out then put it in again and just the right amount

Sound like lean miss,check fuel pressure when bogging and replace gas filter at least.HTH

l would start with pulling the plug wires and plugs look for wetness on plug wire boots also there is a possibility that the intake gasket is bad they were recalled also the intakes crack on those as well oh yeah do not forget to do the water pump bypass hose when you do the intake and full tune-up gl2u flush the cooling system and change the oil too.
