How hard is to change an AC/ compressor on my 91' Lincoln cont. ??? Will l have to add some freon again since l charged it like a year ago ? When l turn on the AC engine shuts off, so l am assuming it is AC/ compressor ! It was also blowing warm air before it seized !Anyone out there please help ! Knowledge is helpful !Thank You !

Working on the HVAC system of any car should be done by a trained pro.

Ac systems r very expensive even more if u guess at the problem.not fixing it right the first time can run u into the $hundreds of bucks$

l do not know how hard it will be to change the compressor but l sure would not try it since l have no experience on the system.and yes u will need to re-charger the system once it is all put back together~i think.

Just in case, search for ur auto parts ''rockauto.com'' l am sure u will all u need & more for way less $ than u local store.

Best wishes! gotta love those Lincolns!

l second the vote for having it repaired by a professional. First off if you're not mechanically inclined & have a decent set of tools this job would be very difficult.

Secondly a professional will know for other things to look at that could save u from spending a lot of money & time replacing the compressor only to find more problems. It is very likely that after a compressor failure the orifice tube could be clogged with metal from ur compressor in which case it is still not going to work.

Cleaning out the orifice tube is not something most people r going to be able to handle by themselves.

It will need to be evacuated before removal. You will need to replace the dryer and orfice tube when replacing the compressor. Then the system will have to be vaciimed down before charging it with fresh freon. l would not try it unless you have the equipment to properly do so.
