So iv been hearing about how expencive it is to fix the Suspention on the Lincoln Continental, but when l looked at it, why cant you just leav it be, sure it would be bumpy as heck, but wouldnt it be able to stay ''broken'' for a little while?

and how much are we talking to fix it? l also hear people salvaging cheaper ones off of other cars?

The car is a 1991 Lincoln Continental with about 150,000 miles

check the air pump, the air valve for the pump. or it could be the hight sensor. if not you are looking at the air shocks.

u have been told right on this, they r expensive to repair, and some times u can get one from a salvage yard that is good,it wont hurt it to leave it like this for a while, but most people would not put that much money in to that old of a car,it just is not worth it,if u can find some of the parts u need from a used one then it would be worth repairing,i priced a new system out for a customer a while back, and it was well over 1500.00 bucks just for the parts, way too much money, you can put regular shocks on that car for around 100 bucks & it will ride good, that is what most people will do with those now days, good luck with it hope this helps.

l used to just replace the air ride with standard shocks and springs and it was way cheaper and worked well.

Yes you can drive it like it is or as someone else said you could replace the air suspension with regular suspension. If you work on cars yourself its not that hard to fix them and also as mentioned use parts from a salvage Lincoln.

You can do some pretty serious damage if the car is bottomed out & u continue to drive it. The exhaust can get ripped off, the airstrust that r good could be over compressed & ruined without being at least partially inflated. The shock of city streets not only fatigues the driver, but all the electronic & mechanical parts of the car.

Moreover, when the car is bottomed out the tires r not applied to the road properly & the car is not at its designed drive angle in relation to the road. It is not in good control, u might notice the wheels slipping on acceleration & skidding on hard braking.

Get the air ride fixed as soon as u can. Used parts & internet dealers will save u a fortune over dealerships & specialty shops. Happy motoring.

go to markvii.org. If you go into the forums and find the for sale section, there are too many items to list here to help with the cost of parts. My Mark viii had bad suspension and l found both front shocks and the compressor for $100.the components should be the same as on your car. Also there is a giant wealth of knowledge in that forum.the best lincoln site l have ever seen..also if you want to convert to non-air, go to americanairsuspension.com.Best price on the conversion.
