l have a 1993 Lincoln Town car with 200,000 miles on it. l just purchased it and have noticed that when l am still at a stop light and take-off there is a blue cloud of smoke left behind. This only occurs when l take-off , then the smoke is gone. Can anyone tell me what the cause of this could be and how expensive it is to fix?

That is engine oil getting in the cylinder.

You have an engine that leaks oil and is burning it during combustion.

Sorry, not sure how expensive it would be to fix that, but l do not think it would be cheap.

you are burning oil, the blue smoke will always be there the only reason you see it is because you are stopped. yes, it is expensive to get a ring job so just make sure you check your oil every week and the engine will still work fine for you for a lot of miles yet.

Blue smoke is oil being burned in the combustion chamber. Check your pvc sytem, it could be a stuck pcv valve. It could be worn valve seals that are letting oil get by. You could also do a compression test on the engine to see how well the rings are sealing. Worn rings will let oil by and into the combustion chamber. At 200,000 miles it could be any of those things.

Most likely your valve stems seals are worn out. Not terribly expensive to fix but you might as well have the heads reconditioned at the same time.
