l have been told the catalytic converter is bad...or could it be the fuel pump...in addition , where can l find a picture online of the exhaust system

If you live in a state that does not require emmissions testing then you should be able to bypass your converter altogether, but fuel pump problems are beyond me. Here is a link to a Lincoln site-good luck.

the one way to prove if your cat is the problem is to disconnect it from the engine,,if your engine runs better,,then its the cat,,otherwise you better fix the engine side,,before you change the cat,that is expensive,so you want to make sure.
why do you need the picture,,just go under and look its better and live,,unless you need the parts number,,,

Your car may have dual exhaust, so you may have 2 converters. You will have to drive it to the muffler shop or put it on jacks to cut off the converters. That is what l would do first. If it runs better, you will know it. It will sound like a race car. However, the fuel pump can be checked by a pressure test. Sounds like you may have to tow it to someone if it wo not run.
